Putri Maharani is a PhD candidate studying community-led responses to tidal flooding along Jakarta's northern coast, where rising seas and sinking land make daily flooding a fact of life. Her research follows how residents adapt their homes, livelihoods, and routines to water that keeps returning.

She argues that coastal resilience has to begin with these lived strategies, and that nature-based defences work best when they are designed with the communities who will live alongside them.
