Coastal ecologist measuring how mangrove belts buffer shorelines against surge and erosion.

Dr Nurul Aisyah is a Co-Investigator and coastal ecologist who measures how mangrove belts buffer shorelines against storm surge and erosion. Her field campaigns quantify the protection a living coastline provides, so that natural defences can be valued alongside the seawalls they often outperform.

Working across Indonesia's coasts, she links the structure of mangrove roots and sediment to the wave energy they absorb, building evidence that restoration is an investment in resilience rather than a cost. Her data feeds directly into the lab's coastal adaptation work.

She welcomes enquiries about coastal ecology and field collaboration at nurul.aisyah@ntu.edu.sg.
