Dr Tran Minh Quan is a hydrologist modelling river flow and salinity intrusion across the Mekong Delta, where upstream change and rising seas are reshaping one of the world's most productive landscapes. His models trace how water moves through the delta and where saltwater now reaches.

Working with village observers and the lab's modelling team, he connects on-the-ground readings to basin-scale simulation, so that adaptation planning rests on a realistic account of flooding, drought, and salinity together.

His current focus is the interplay between seasonal floodplains and freshwater supply, a balance that decides the futures of millions of delta residents.
