Ecosystem-services modeller focused on deltaic landscapes and nature-based futures.

Dr Sophie Nguyen models the services that deltaic landscapes provide, from flood regulation and sediment capture to the carbon held in wetland soils. Her work asks what a river delta quietly does for the cities downstream, and what is lost when that natural infrastructure is paved over or drained.

Building on the InVEST family of tools, she develops nature-based future scenarios that let agencies compare a restored floodplain against a built defence on the same footing. These scenarios have helped frame adaptation choices across the Mekong and beyond.
